Ontario Power Generation is a global leader in the nuclear industry. In order to maintain such a dignified status, forward thinking is a necessary component of every day activity. To support that mindset, OPG created The X-Lab, a group of employees from varied backgrounds with a singular mandate: innovation.
From its conception, The X-Lab has outperformed expectations and created a standard for internal innovation amongst the Nuclear Industry and beyond. The cost savings for OPG out of The X-Lab have been a revelation and the work has been identified as groundbreaking.
The mandate is simple: create tools, processes and applications that will create unique change internally to drive efficiency and innovation culture.
For an organization that is intent on being a global leader, it’s important to communicate success to contemporaries in the industry. The X-Lab is focused on creating inspired work and it was identified that support was required to tell the success story. This is where the Kleurvision team centralized our focus.
Kleurvision approached the project with the same intent as The X-Lab, come up with an innovative solution with speed and velocity. It was important to find parallels between the communication output and those found in The X-Lab.
To that end, Kleurvision developed The Innovation Almanac; a hardcover coffee table book featuring editorials and case studies showcasing the innovation culture cultivated throughout OPG with The X-Lab at the forefront.
Over the course of 6 weeks, the Kleurvision team set out to conquer the challenge. The complexity of the project required project management and logistics to be paramount in achieving success. Our design team set out to create a foundation for the look and feel in conjunction with the editorial team conducting over 2 dozen interviews with employees ranging from engineers to the CEO and all captured on 4K video. The KV team worked intimately to marry the creative with the content and produce an output that was both visually stunning and educational in nature.
The Innovation Almanac was sent to Nuclear Leaders across the globe and continues to be a key showcase piece for Ontario Power Generation.
